Julie Barshinger

Marionette Artist, Writer, Storyteller and Traveler

I first became interested in making marionettes after working as a professional puppeteer. To learn the art of carving, I studied with a master marionette maker in Prague and a master carver in the USA. I then spent several years honing my craft.

In 2018, I decided to start my own company, Studio Marionette. On March 26, 2018, I performed my production of “The Treasure of Magoor” with my very own marionettes at the Bloomberg Children’s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

My hope as an artist is that I will inspire creativity and bring joy to others in the process. When I am not carving, you will probably find me playing the cello, hiking with my dog or traveling to see my friends around the world. This journey is worth living, and I am thankful for every moment I am given.
