Today I discovered a Crystal Palace in the Buen Retiro Park in Madrid. It is truly an amazing sight!
The palace is made of glass set inside an iron frame. The architect Ricardo Velázquez Bosco designed it in the shape of a Greek cross and finished it 1887 for the Exposition of the Philippines. Its original purpose was to be a greenhouse for the Exposition in 1887, but now it is used to display various kinds of artwork.
Did you know that Spain ruled the Philippines from 1565 to 1898? It’s true! In fact, many people in the Philippines used to speak Philippine Spanish which is a variant of standard Spanish. Now that Philippine Spanish is fading out of use, most people speak Filipino, English, Tagalog, or another local language.
