Hi friends!

How many of you like bears? I do! Behind me is the famous symbol of the city of Madrid. It is called “El Oso y el Madroño” or “The bear and the Madroño tree.”

Many years ago, there was a huge dispute over who would control the pastures and the trees in the lands of Madrid. This symbol represents a famous agreement to give control of the pastures to the people and control of the trees to the priests.

Does your city have a symbol? Do you know what it is and what it stands for? It might be fun to find out! If you like, you can write to me and tell me what you discovered! Just click on the “Contact” button and send me a message!

Your bear-loving friend,

Peter
